3rd December 2024
It is with great pride that we welcome The Oast Theatre in Tonbridge and their incredible team of volunteers to the TN card.
This special local charity is thanking members for supporting them with a complimentary tea or coffee when watching a production, and we hope it encourages our lovely members to visit and enjoy local theatre.
The Oast Theatre celebrated its fiftieth birthday this month, though it began way back in 1922, with the beginning of Tonbridge Amateur Dramatic Society (later merging with Tonbridge Little Theatre to become Tonbridge Theatre & Arts Club in 1946).
Today, The Oast Theatre is run by a dedicated and talented team of over 100 volunteers, many of whom we had the pleasure of meeting (and photographing) when we visited for a tour. We were blown away by how kind and welcoming everyone was, all with a vital role for the running of each production.
At present, cast, set makers, prop and costume designers, technicians, box office and the whole crew are hard at work preparing for their latest production of Arabian Nights which opens on 7th December, and from the looks of things audiences are in for a treat.
We began the TN card in 2020 because we felt like as locals, it's easy to miss what's right under our noses, and for us personally, The Oast Theatre was exactly that. We drive past each day and had never appreciated all that goes on in this historic building.
Did you know for example, that The Oast Theatre has an enormous collection of costumes and accessories that are loaned out to not just our local theatres, but to the West End and across the UK? A big props department too. Then they've the Oast Youth Theatre providing experience for 8-19 year olds, an Art Group for their members that meets each week and so much more. The Oast Theatre really is an asset for Tonbridge to be proud of.
The Oast Theatre now thanks members for supporting local with a complimentary tea or coffee when they visit for a show - we hope it encourages us all, ourselves included, to support this local treasure and the wonderful people behind it.
