You’ve signed up to the TN card and downloaded the app – welcome! Now, it's time to make the most of those fantastic benefits. Rather than just another widget on your phone screen, consider the TN card app a next-level Little Black Book: an indispensable directory of the best that local has to offer, with nearly a thousand exclusive rewards as a thank you for supporting local.
The app is designed to help make things as easy as possible for you – whether that be finding nearby rewards when you’re out and about, narrowing down searches to your specific tastes, or helping you keep track of the latest local events. Ready to get started?
1. Setting up the app.
1a. Your profile - add your details to start using your card.
If you've not already provided details during the sign up process, the first thing you'll need to do before using your membership card is add your personal details. Click on the circle at the top right corner to do this. Upload a photo of yourself for your membership card (apologies to the camera-shy among us, it helps our businesses make sure only real members are enjoying rewards), along with basic details such as your name, address, and email.
Please be assured that all information is kept entirely confidential, in line with our privacy policy. Your address just helps us to know where members live, so we can add business rewards that suit our member demographic. The same for your age and gender - the more information we have on our community of members as a whole, the more we can shape the TN card to suit you.
We will only contact you if you are happy receiving our newsletters, you've entered and won a competition, or we have a problem / want to help you with your card.
1b. App notifications - make them bespoke to you.
Once you’ve completed your profile, saving your details will take you back to the homepage. Click on that corner profile image again, and find the ‘My preferences’ tab. This is where you’re able to let us know what app notifications you'd like to receive.
First up, you’ll see ‘My locations’. If you’d like to see all our rewards across all locations, simply leave the little toggles ‘off’ (on the grey setting). However, if you’d only like to hear about new and updated rewards in certain areas, click their corresponding toggle; this should turn it green.
From there, scroll to reach ‘My categories’. Want to only hear about rewards on particular services, say shopping and restaurants? Again, click the toggle next to each of the categories you’re most keen on.
Finally, at the end of the page, you’ll see options for different app notifications. Click the top toggle if you’d like to receive all notifications from the TN card – when new offers and businesses are added, updates on rewards, and general news for members. If you’d only like to receive notifications for one or two of these, just click on their individual toggle.
Don’t worry if you miss an app alert, as it will also appear in the notifications section. This can be found by clicking the little bell symbol next to your profile picture on the homepage.
1c. Permissions
We've built map functionality in the app which enables your phone to tell you the distance of businesses from you, as well as pinpointing your location and showing you rewards closest to you. To allow the app to know where you are (when the app is being used), go to your phone settings and ensure that location services are switched on for the TN card.
- Open Settings
- Tap Location
- Tap App location permissions
- Under 'Allowed all the time,' 'Allowed only while in use,' 'Ask every time,' and 'Not allowed,' find the apps that use your location
- Change the TN card's app permission to 'Allowed all the time' or 'Allowed only while in use'
For your peace of mind: Our app will only use location services when it is being used. You'll see an arrow icon in the top right corner of your phone screen when an app is using location services.
2. An unbeatable directory of local rewards.
2a. Explore all our rewards.
On our menu at the bottom of the app, you’ll notice a magnifying glass and the word ‘Explore’. Here, you’ll find a list of every local business that’s signed up to the TN card and is rewarding us all for supporting local.
For each listing, you’ll immediately see the business name and the category it falls into. Also displayed is the distance of each business from your current location, along with a heart symbol (click to save it as a favourite, more on this later).
Clicking on a business name will take you to their individual page, with all the must-know information on their reward for members, any terms and conditions and how to redeem. You’ll also find further details on each business, including who they are, their contact details, and a link to their website.
If businesses are online, or it's an event with an online booking, you'll also see your exclusive promo code. If you can't see a code, check that you're logged in with active membership, as it's only revealed to members inside the app.
2b. Location, location, location.
On the home screen you'll see photos of all our locations. Scroll left through the pictures to be taken on a little journey through the TN postcodes, as well as our online local businesses.
Click on one of these images to be presented with an alphabetical list of TN card businesses in that particular town. As per the main directory, these are automatically presented in a list, with their distance from your current location listed on the right. If you’d like to see them on a map, click on the ‘Map’ option at the top of the page.
The businesses in each town directory can also be sub-filtered by category. For instance, if you’re out with the kids and looking for somewhere they’ll enjoy, tap the ‘Filter’ tab on the top right and select the specific category to be shown all the child-friendly businesses in that area.
2c. Search by category.
On the home screen (underneath locations) you'll also see our categories, again with images which you can scroll through. If you’re sitting at home wondering what to do with your day, this will help you narrow things down.
Fancy grabbing coffee or a bite to eat? Click on the ‘food and drink’ image, and you’ll be shown an alphabetical list of every coffee shop, cafe, and restaurant within the TN area that’s a TN card partner, Again, clicking the relevant tab at the top lets you see these in a map view or filter them by town.
With categories including child-friendly and dog-friendly businesses, health and fitness, leisure, and beauty, there’s truly plenty for everyone.
2d. Search by keyword.
With just shy of a thousand rewards in the directory, the quickest way to find something specific is to use our key word search function at the top of the homescreen. You'll see a little magnifying glass and the words, 'What are you looking for?' Type here what you're after (for example, coffee, theatre) and it will search the directory up all the rewards with this word in the listing.
2e. Map functionality.
When you tap on 'Explore' in our menu footer, you'll see that you can search by map, list or filter. If you click on map you'll see the app picks up your current location. If you're cloes to any rewards, you'll also see them pinpointed in red on the map near you too. You may need to zoom out a little to see as many as you need. Once you've found a reward, click on the pinpoint icon and its directory page will pop up, so you can find out more.
2f. Save your favourites.
If there are rewards you go back to time and time again, or if you have spotted a great business and would like to refer to it later on, click on the heart icon by their name or on their page. You'll then have a shortcut to the reward in the facourites section of the app (on the lower menu bar). It just makes using the app a little bit easier. To remove a business / reward from your favourites, click again on the heart in their listing.
3. Not forgetting all our events.
In addition to business listings, the app is home to our events directory. Events is a big part of what we do, with exclusive member discounts on theatre productions, cinema screenings and other unmissable local events.
Not only that, but we have exclusive TN card events for our members! An opportunity to get to know our TN card partners better with behind the scenes events at our independent businesses - from visits to our local gin distilleries and wineries to chocolate making, wine tasting, floristry and candle making workshops! We also have business workshops (our quarterly Small Business Talks series) and seasonal parties.
To visit our events directory, visit the events tab in the middle of our menu footer. They'll also appear in any keyword searches.
4. Using your membership card.
4a. Showing your card.
We've made our membership cards digital so you no longer need to worry about leaving your card at home. Your phone and app is all you need to show businesses that you're a wonderful TN card member. When opening the app you'll see your digital membership card on the homescreen. Tap on this and you'll be taken to your 'My membership plan' screen, to show businesses. Showing businesses this way ensures they can see not only your membership card, but your lovely photo too - to double check it's you.
Some businesses will ask you to scan a QR code to check in, before redeeming a reward. To do this, hit the 'Scan' button at the bottom right of the app and scan the QR code at their till point. When you do this, the business will appear in the 'Rewards history' section of your app.
4b. No WiFi? No problem.
We’ve optimised the app so that your TN card displays whether you’re online or offline. No more waving your phone about to desperately try to get a signal! It's why you may notice the app downloading images when you install an update or login for the first time in a while - by downloading images for your membership card and all our rewards, it means everyhting you need is sitting within the app, without replying on WiFi.
Lots of other helpful information.
Last but not least, our app is where you’ll find essential information on your subscription, including the date your card will automatically renew. You’ll also find a link to our website FAQs, as well as a ‘Contact us’ tab. If you have any questions about the TN card or your membership, we’re happy to help.
Cancelling your membership.
We would hate to see you go, but if you need to end your membership for any reason, you can cancel your subscription either through our webiste or through your phone, depending on how you set up your membership.
